Private Kohala & Hamakua Highlights

Experience history and nature in a short period of touring time. Start with the Hawaiian temple Pu’u Kohola, where King Kamehameha’s superhuman and tactical feats are summarized. Travel 20 miles north to find where many of stones were passed hand-to-hand to build the renowned Polulu. From this scenic point, it is a 300-foot drop to the valley floor and ocean.

On our way back, we take the Kohala Mountain Road passing through drier climates into a lush green hill landscape. More than 3,500-feet above sea level, it is possible to get clear views of Hawaii’s four tallest mountains.

Following our descent from Kohala Mountain Road, we pass through Kamuela Town which is often shrouded in mist and clouds, en route to Waipio Valley lookout. Before we head back to your hotel, we will make a stop at Tex Drive Inn for delicious malasadas. Your expert guide will maximize your time window, whether you are coming in on a cruise, a lay-over at the airport, a work conference, or already have other activities planned. This tour is the best way to experience what Kohala and Hamakua has to offer in a 4-7 hour timeframe.
